The Farm Giallombardo
When people ask me what I do in my life, I like to tell them a story. I tell them I am part of a family company that still believes in quality, authenticity and tradition. It is a tale about hard work and sacrifice, struggle, family, passion, and new challenges. It is the story of our farm “Azienda Agricola Giallombardo”.
Our story began in 1850. At that time, Italy was not a unified nation yet, and Sicily was part of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Back then, my ancestor Salvatore Giallombardo established a farm in Partinico, a few kilometres away from Palermo. Salvatore, who was a praetor and a man of exceptional character, soon became a capable trader. He ran the Company for a few years until his son Alfredo took his place.
Alfredo was an exceptionally talented farmer, and his guidance was crucial for the Company. Those were the years of new challenges for our farm. Despite the financial crisis, Alfredo built strong relationships with the kingdom of Italy and the European countries.

He used to send to his clients some sample bottles of wine inside wooden boxes. That was either to protect the bottle and to impress his clients. His cleverness and the high quality of the products brought the company to the next level. When he retired, the farm was run by his nephew Roberto, who gave the land to some tenant farmers.
Those became part of the family and worked hard to keep the high quality of the products. Roberto, who was my grandfather, retired many years later and finally put his heart and soul into the production of the wine Portellino.

High quality, sustainability and authenticity. That’s how we make our precious olive oil.
The great revolution started under the guidance of my father, Arturo. He soon proved to be a wise trader and a skilful communicator. As he took over, he converted the entire production into extra-virgin olive oil. That was a high risk for the business, but my father has always made it through the hard times until today.
Today, my fiancée Giusi and I are working for the Company, sharing the passion and the core values of this great small business. We are now setting new targets, such as exporting our unique olive oil and winning new market sectors.
We aim to bring our Company to the next level! We know it is hard times we are facing, but we love new challenges! People often ask us “how are you going to do this?”. My answer is always the same: hard work, high quality, sustainable technologies to look at the future, and our dear old wooden box to remind us of our great past!
Our history is made of ancient traditions, passion and love for the land. Giuseppe Giallombardo
